Curriculum Policy

The United Graduate School of Drug Discovery and Medical Information Sciences fosters advanced, specialized skills that allow graduates to contribute to the maintenance and betterment of healthy living from the dual perspectives of drug discovery and medical information while offering an opportunity to undertake a broad study of the academic disciplines of pharmaceutical science, medical science, and engineering. To allow graduates to cultivate these skills, the programs offer curriculums that have been designed around the following five core elements:

  1. Cultivation and use of specialized knowledge
The curriculums foster the mastery of a diverse range of knowledge and the ability to apply it by setting up educational and research domains that organically link the two majors of Medicinal Sciences and Medical Information Sciences. Fields of specialization encompass disciplines such as pharmaceutical science, medical science, and engineering, allowing students to master a broad range of specialized knowledge.
  2. Ability to think and analyze data scientifically
The curriculums foster the ability to think scientifically, analyze data, and apply findings from a multidisciplinary perspective through special research that serves as the basis for each student's thesis, as well as fundamental experimental techniques and methodology, and advanced courses of specialized study.
  3. Fostering the ability to communicate information and express it in completed form
In addition to fostering the ability to communicate research findings to domestic and overseas audiences through a course designed to enhance students' English proficiency as well as poster presentation sessions, the curriculums foster the ability to express one's own research findings in completed form through courses about the international pharmaceutical industry and study of intellectual property so that students can give something back to society.
  4. Communication and leadership
The curriculums take advantage of the United Graduate School's unique off-campus training programs to foster the ability to carry out research as a team member or team leader through opportunities to experience training at overseas research institutions and domestic corporations.
  5. Bioethics and research ethics
The curriculums ensure students master a proper understanding of bioethics and the researcher code of conduct as well as the ability to put them into practice through courses on social ethics and bioethics along with research ethics audits and lectures.

United Graduate of Drug Discovery and Medical Information Science assesses student learning outcomes based on student performance relative to course targets set in accordance with university standards as well as the evaluation criteria outlined in the syllabus for each course.
