Note:

1) These numbers include both employed and international applicants.
2) Employed applicants are those who are working at the time of application and will continue to do so after enrollment in the program.
3) International applicants are those who do not have Japanese citizenship and will study at the program on a student visa.

    Eligibility for Application

    Applicants to the UGS-DDMIS program must satisfy one of the following educational criteria by the end of March 2020.

    1. Hold a master's degree or professional degree from a Japanese school;
    2. Hold a master's degree, professional degree, or equivalent from a foreign school that is considered equivalent to the master's degree or professional degree in Japan;
    3. Hold a master's degree, professional degree, or equivalent obtained in Japan through a distant learning program offered by a foreign school;
    4. Hold a master's degree, professional degree, or equivalent obtained after completion of a Japan-based foreign graduate program that is accredited by the national educational system in its native country and accredited and designated separately by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT);
    5. Hold a master's degree or equivalent obtained after completion of a program at the United Nations University, which was established with the approval of the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 11, 1972, and specified in Article 1 Paragraph 2 of the Act on Special Measures Incidental to Enforcement of the Agreement Between the United Nations and Japan Regarding the Headquarters of the United Nations University (Act No. 72, 1976).
    6. Completed an education course at foreign school, educational institutions that have been designated as qualifying for admission(4) or the United Nations University, and passed the examination or review that are equivalent to the ones in Article 16-2 of Standards for Establishment of University, and be accredited by the UGS-DDMIS as having academic ability equivalent to a master's degree.
    7. Be accredited by MEXT (MEXT Public Notice No. 118, 1989, partially amended on March 30, 2001), i.e., (a) have worked at a university, research institute, or other relevant institution as a researcher for at least two years after completion of a bachelor's degree, a 16-year educational program in a foreign country, or a Japan-based, 16-year distant learning educational program of a foreign country that is accredited by the national educational system in its native country; and (b) be accredited by the UGS-DDMIS as having academic ability equivalent to a master's degree;
    8. Be 24 years of age or older on or before March 31, 2020, and be accredited by the UGS-DDMIS through an individual qualification review has having academic ability equivalent to a master's degree or a professional degree, i.e., have graduated a two-year college, college of technology, specialized training college, other Japanese school in the "miscellaneous" category, Japan-based foreign university, international school, or ethnic school and be accredited by the UGS-DDMIS through an individual qualification review as having academic ability equivalent to a master's degree;

    Note: Applicants who fall under category 7 or 8 should carefully read the next section, " Approval of Application Eligibility."

    Approval of Application Eligibility

    Before applying for admission, applicants who fall under category 7 or 8 in "Section Application Eligibility" must apply for an eligibility assessment.
    We will conduct an interview (including an oral examination).

    Prior Consultation for Disabled Applicants

    The UGS-DDMIS encourages all disabled applicants who may require additional support during their entry examination due to disabilities defined in Article 22-3 of the Order for Enforcement of the School Education Act (see the table below) to contact us prior to application. The deadline and procedures for prior consultation are as follows:

    (1) Deadline for prior consultation

    5:00 pm on December 2 (mon), 2019

    Even in the case of a crutch user, or applicant with a hearing aid or in wheelchair, also they are required to consult with us for our additional support during the entry examination, This prior consultation is intended to let the disabled applicants know about our current situation beforehand, and to seek the better way for them. So it never affects the admission decision.

    (2) How to consult with the UGS-DDMIS:

    • Submit an Application Form for Disabled Applicants for Special Arrangements Before Admission to the UGS-DDMIS along with a medical certificate or a copy of the applicant's physical disability certificate.
    • The applicant or an immediate family member may be asked to participate in an interview.

    (3) How to request an application form:

    To request for an Application Form for Disabled Applicants for Special Arrangements Before Admission by mail, send a self-addressed return envelope (N3 size, 23.5 cm long × 12.0 cm wide) in an envelop. Note "Request for Application Form for Disabled Applicants for Special Arrangements Before Admission" on the front of the envelope in red ink and send to:

    (4) Applicants who become disabled after the deadline:

    In the event of a disability occurring after the application deadline, for example due to an unforeseen accident, applicants are encouraged to consult with the UGS-DDMIS at any time.

    Application documents submitted personally by candidates are accepted from Dec. 20 (fri) to Dec.25 (wed), 2019 (both dates inclusive), from 9:00 to 17:00. Mailed Applications must be received on or before Dec.25 (wed), 2019.

    Selection of Candidates

    Admission decision is based on the result of interview and documentary examination, Research (hope) Plan, Academic Transcript, Summary of master's thesis. In the case of applicants currently employed, Permission for Application and Statement of Research Achievement are also part of documentary examination.

    Examination Schedule and Place

    Examination Venue

    The interview will be about 30 minutes long and include:

    • Applicant's presentation (20 min)

    Give a paper or electronic presentation on your past research work and results. Use PowerPoint (Windows only) software to prepare the electronic presentation and provide the file on a USB drive or bring your own computer.

    • Oral examination (approx. 10 min)

    Faculty members will ask questions about your presentation, research proposals, summary of master's thesis and other issues related to your research area.

    Announcement of Results

    February 6 (thu), 2020 at 10:00AM

    Admission results will be posted on the bulletin board on the 8th floor of the New Building at Gifu Pharmaceutical University. Successful applicants will be also notified by mail. The docments for admission procedure will be sent in late February, 2020.
